Copyrights! Yes, I’m a nerd, but I just LOVE copyrights! I love protecting business owners and creatives and everyone and copyrights and cats and dogs and what was I talking about again? Oh yeah, COPYRIGHTS!
They are better than Christmas morning! Don’t believe me? Keep reading!
1. They last soooooo long:
It’s true. Copyrights last a really long time. Like longer than the five minutes it takes you to open that present and discover it’s a pair of socks.
2. They protect your shiz:
Yep. Artwork? Check. Movie? Check. Book? Check. Photograph? Check. Does a video game console do that? Didn’t think so.
3. They allow you to sue:
While it’s true you have copyrights immediately once something is finished, you can’t do anything with those “natural rights.” But a true copyright will let you protect your creations.
4. They are not that expensive…surprisingly:
Unlike that necklace you had to buy for your much younger wife (or mistress- I don’t know), copyrights are cheap! I registered like 10 for someone and it was $85 dollars. That’s less than I’ve spent on granola. I wish I were kidding.
5. You’ll have freedom!
You can post your artwork, photos, etc, to your heart’s content and not be worried about someone stealing them. I mean, you might still worry, but you have a copyright, so suck it person who steals your stuff! Cease and desist!
6. You can license them:
Which kind of sounds weird, but what I mean is you can do license agreements where other people can use your copyright and you can get paid. How cool is that.
7. They protect everything creative:
And I mean everything. Just think C= Creative. Songs, books, artwork, poems, lyrics, sculptures, art made out of cat hair, art made out of cat whiskers…you get the point. No, I’m not collecting my cat’s whiskers, thank you very much.
8. They grow back your hair:
Nah, just kidding. I wanted to make sure you were still reading. If you are, I have a secret for you. All you have to do is decode it in this blog post. Good luck!
9. You Can Reproduce…Your creative stuff (get your mind out of the gutter!):
Copyrights give you all kinds of rights- like being able to reproduce your artwork and stuff.
10. You Become Part of the Public Record, and thus a part of history:
Like Paris Hilton or Kym Kardashian, you have made your indelible mark on the world. Congratulations.
